As an educator, currently head of music at a local secondary school, I am passionate about a music education that is inclusive whilst also providing the foundation for our young people to develop to the very highest level. I recognise the joy and myriad benefits that a lifelong relationship with music brings, from an academic, social and emotional perspective. Developing new teachers is another crucial aspect of music education and one I have enjoyed being involved with for 14 years through mentoring with Sussex University.
I studied music in both South Africa and England, completing my post graduate teacher training in England. My prior background in the advertising and finance sectors has broadened my approach which, together with my knowledge and understanding of the current music education landscape puts me in a position to give Ensemble Reza practical input. For example, relating to their project work with young people, linking this with aspects of the curriculum or involving the development of new teachers.
The Ensemble Reza musicians have so inspired my students over the years, and I am delighted to have the opportunity to work more closely with such an inspirational group of musicians whose philosophy so closely matches my own.
