Composition Workshops

Project outline:

These sessions are an opportunity for up to four Ensemble Reza together with our wider pool of professional musicians to provide students with the knowledge and skills through live demonstrations to compose for a range of instruments including string/wind/brass and percussion.  Throughout these workshops there is a healthy and relaxed dialogue between our musicians, teachers and students as composition ideas are tried and tested. This project culminates in both recording and performing opportunities for students.

Projects aims to include:

  • To inspire and raise the aspirations of talented young adults, who are studying music at a higher level.

  • To give students first hand experience, writing for a range of musical instruments to a set deadline.

  • To continue to give young people the opportunity to experience the social benefits of a music making project (raising self esteem, confidence, empowering, resilience etc).

Reach: In three days we can:

Run: 6 workshops

Enthuse: 45 young people

Inspire: 4 teachers

Composing for Ensemble Reza’s professional musicians has been an amazing experience for our A level Music students have hugely benefitted from. As well as being brilliant players who have brought our students’ compositions to life, the musicians have been great fun and an absolute joy to work with. Their feedback to our young composers has been both constructive and encouraging and has led to our students striving for the highest standards in their work

I feel inspired, motivated
I feel really confident due to the musicians’ friendliness and positive feedback.
— Student feedback from our 2023 BHASVIC project
I loved hearing the music that I’d composed online, to hearing it realised by professional musicians. I also enjoyed performing my composition with them, which was such a valuable and fantastic opportunity.
