Transition Workshops for Primary & Secondary Schools

Project outline:

Working with established secondary school choirs/ensembles two Ensemble Reza musicians will lead rehearsals bringing together year 6 primary students and year 7 secondary students, helping to ease the transition for younger students.  These rehearsals will link with an end of term performance where students can perform alongside our professional team.

Projects aims to include:

·       To help schools share resources, best practice and music transition opportunities.

·       For Year 6 students to be encouraged and welcomed to join music groups and take up/continue instrumental lessons once they join Year 7

Reach: In three days we can:

Run: 6 workshops

Enthuse: 180 young people

Inspire: 20 teachers

The interaction between the primary and secondary students was well supported and a clear strength of this project was the way it enabled such positive relationships to form and gave the older students a chance to lead and mentor. The (now) year 7 students who have since joined Oathall have very high expectations of their music lessons and are familiar with staff and the department.’

I loved working with specialists in instruments other than my own. It’s impossible for me as a teacher to be able to support individual groups in a session. Having specialist help raised our level and enjoyment for me & the students.
