The perfect antidote to Storm Bert

There wasn’t a spare seat to be had this evening for Reza’s ever popular annual candlelit concert in Holy Trinity church in Cuckfield. Guests were warmly welcomed in from the wind and rain to a truly twinkling scene, with hundreds of tealights aglow.

The programme opened with Mozart’s lyrical String Quintet in Bb major. The Reza musicians played with their usual panache and joy throughout.

Pavlos then joined his colleagues as the soloist for Haydn’s Cello Concerto in C major. For many audience members this was the highlight of the evening with many cello students in attendance seeing how it’s done.

Mulled wine and other refreshments were enjoyed in the interval before we re-took our seats for the much more contemporary Korngold’s String Sextet in D major.

There was a palpable buzz as the church emptied and everyone braved the storm once again, but this time warmed from within by the most wonderful melodies we were lucky enough to have witnessed this evening.
